Job details:
We are looking for an Electronic Technician to join our hardware team. The selected candidate will play a hands-on role across the full product lifecycle, supporting PCB layout activities, mechanical drafting, prototype assembly, and both laboratory and field test campaigns. The role requires a strong practical attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously in demanding environments, including on-site radar installations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the hardware team in PCB layout activities using Altium Designer, including component placement, routing, and design rule check (DRC) verification
- Preparing and updating mechanical drawings using 2D/3D CAD tools for enclosures, mounting brackets, and system-level assemblies
- Performing through-hole and SMD soldering on prototype and pre-production boards, including fine-pitch ICs and RF connectors
- Assembling electronic and electromechanical systems, including cable harness fabrication, connector crimping, and chassis integration
- Supporting bring-up and debug of prototype boards in the laboratory, including basic measurements and visual inspection
- Participating in laboratory test campaigns alongside engineers, operating bench instruments and recording measurement results
- Participating in field test activities, including radar system installation, alignment, and on-site functional verification
- Maintaining accurate records of assembly procedures, test results, and any anomalies observed during integration or field operations
- Contributing to the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, including assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and test logs
Required skills and qualification:
Education
- Technical diploma (Perito Elettronico or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; further technical education is considered a plus
CAD and Design Tools
- Practical experience with PCB layout tools, preferably Altium Designer; familiarity with schematic capture, component libraries, and Gerber file generation
- Working knowledge of 2D mechanical CAD (e.g. AutoCAD) for drafting enclosure drawings, panel cutouts, and mechanical interfaces
- Basic proficiency with 3D mechanical CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360) for visualisation of assemblies and interference checks is considered a plus
Practical and Assembly Skills
- Proficient in through-hole and SMD soldering, including rework of fine-pitch components (0402, QFP, BGA) using hot air and soldering iron
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, PCB assembly drawings, and mechanical fabrication drawings
- Experience in cable harness assembly, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and connector assembly to specification
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail in precision assembly operations
- Familiarity with electrostatic discharge (ESD) handling procedures and cleanroom best practices
Laboratory and Field
- Ability to operate basic bench instruments: digital multimeter, oscilloscope, bench power supply, and LCR meter
- Willingness and physical ability to participate in field test campaigns, which may involve outdoor installations, travel to remote sites, and extended operational hours
- Good knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken, sufficient to read technical documentation and communicate with international partners
Desired skills:
- Basic knowledge of RF connectors and coaxial cable assembly (SMA, N-type, BNC), including proper torque procedures
- Driving licence (category B); availability for occasional travel within Italy and abroad for field test activities
Duration:
For candidates with documented relevant experience, the position will be offered on a permanent (open-ended) contract, subject to the probationary period required by applicable law and the relevant national collective bargaining agreement (CCNL). For junior profiles, an initial one-year fixed-term contract will be offered, with the possibility of extension and subsequent permanent placement. The start date will be agreed with the selected candidate; early availability is preferred.
