PEGASUS is a multichannel passive radar system with real-time moving target detection and tracking (MTI and MTT). for aerial and maritime surveillance. PEGASUS can exploit illuminators of opportunity such as commercial broadcast and communications signals, e.g. UMTS, DVB-T, LTE, DVB-S. The multichannel architecture enables array processing for target localization, e.g. with monopulse or digital beamforming.
Because of the continuous increase of the aerial and maritime traffic, surveillance systems are increasingly in demand to enhance the airport and harbor surveillance without affecting the electromagnetic pollution levels. PEGASUS is a GREEN technology since it does not emit electromagnetic signals. PEGASUS has been designed and developed with a modular architecture to meet all specific customer needs. It can be equipped with multiple receiving channels to enable array processing and then perform target localization.
Thanks to the availability of Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)-based programmable hardware platforms and system on chip (SoC) architectures, time processing and size of radar are drastically reduced. Such an approach not only reduces the cost of the system but increases the system integration and provides up-to-date high-performance platform for passive radar signal processing.
PEGASUS is designed for the highest user experience. It can operate 24/7 in “all-weather” conditions, also in extreme and harsh environments.
PEGASUS offers an effective solution for homeland security without employing transmitters, therefore minimizing costs and power consumption. No electromagnetic emissions allow PEGASUS to be safely installed in sensible areas like densely populated urban area, national parks, critical infrastructures etc. This can include the monitoring of potentially malevolent operators, such as illegal fishing vessels, hazardous cargo transporters and low flight objects.
Here an example of the obtained results in a maritime scenario:
Main advantages of PEGASUS are:
