Radar Hardware Designer

Reference: HW-002-2026
Contact: jobs@echoes-tech.it
Location: Echoes S.r.l. Via Aurelio Lampredi, 45 – 57121 Livorno, (Italy)
Job details:
We are looking for a Hardware Designer with hands-on experience in RF and radar system design. The selected candidate will be involved across the full hardware development cycle, from system requirements analysis through laboratory validation, working closely with the radar architecture and signal processing teams.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Analysing radar system requirements (range, resolution, PRF, noise figure, dynamic range) and mapping them into hardware system and subsystem specifications
  • Schematic design and PCB layout using Altium Designer (or equivalent tools: KiCad, Cadence Allegro) for RF, digital, and mixed-signal boards
  • Component selection and qualification: RF amplifiers (LNA, PA), frequency synthetizers, high-speed ADC/DAC converters, filters, switches, and circulators
  • Technical relationship management with suppliers and distributors (advanced datasheet requests, samples, lead time and MOQ negotiation)
  • Preparation of project technical documentation: BOM, design notes etc.
  • Support during PCB prototype bring-up and debug sessions
  • Laboratory measurement campaigns and validation testing, including preparation of test reports
Required skills and qualification:
Education
  • MSc (or BSc with solid demonstrable experience) in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or equivalent
Technical Skills
  • Solid experience in RF PCB design using Altium Designer or similar
  • Understanding of radar architectures: RF front-end (LO, mixer, filters, AGC), digital sections (ADC, DAC, FPGA)
  • Experience in switching power supply and LDO design for high-precision RF applications
  • Good command of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) techniques on multilayer PCBs
  • Familiarity with standard digital interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, LVDS, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex datasheets and application notes for active and passive RF components
  • Good knowledge of the English language
Laboratory Equipment
The candidate must be able to operate independently with the following instruments:
  • Spectrum analyser for PSD measurements, spurious emissions, and phase noise characterisation
  • Vector network analyser for S-parameter characterisation of RF components and subsystems
  • RF signal generators
  • High-speed digital oscilloscope for digital signal debug and jitter measurements
  • Programmable bench power supplies and precision multimeters for power consumption measurements and supply verification
Desired skills:
  • Knowledge of RF simulation tools
  • Experience with FMCW, pulsed, or SFCW radar systems and familiarity with the radar signal processing chain
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing in anechoic or semi-anechoic chambers
Duration:
For candidates with documented experience in the field, the position will be offered on a permanent (open-ended) contract, subject to the probationary period required by applicable law and the relevant national collective bargaining agreement (CCNL). For junior profiles, an initial one-year fixed-term contract will be offered, with the possibility of extension and subsequent permanent placement. The start date will be agreed with the selected candidate; early availability is preferred.
